Liamont Arbeau
Server: Omega [Chaos] | Mateus [Crystal]
About
Race: Elezen
Occupation: Squire of the Temple Knights, 10th Company
Appearance: Of average height for an Elezen, he does not particularly stick out in the streets of Ishgard. He is rarely seen without his armour. Even his eye-colour is not of much note—the self-same yellow as many from the Brume.
Common Knowledge: Brume-born, he served with the 4th for some time, and participated in the Steel War against the Ixal four turns past. He is currently posted with the 10th Expeditionary Unit.
Hooks
Brume children: Mayhap you had shared the bitter experience of growing up the Brume.
Odd jobs: Need you someone to lift boxes? To sweep your shop? Liamont is not one to turn his nose up at honest work.
Greater Ishgard: Liamont can be found in various places in Ishgard on his time off. As he rarely ventures outside of Ishgard, (almost) anywhere in the Holy See is fair game. He does not frequent taverns, however, unless there is a very good reason for him to be there. But elsewhere? Mayhap you've seen him around!
The 10th Company of Temple Knights: The unit he is currently serving. He can be seen on patrol, guarding various points of the City, or on missions given to the 10th. Previously, he served in the 4th. More information on the 10th can be found here.
Currently only looking for Ishgardian hyur/elezen connections! It has been interesting to RP with non-Ishgardians, but at the moment I'm mostly looking to grow Liamont's Ishgardian network.
OOC
Availability: My timezone is GMT+8 (Taiwan). I'm relatively flexible, though I prefer:For NA : Between~7am to 12pm, or 4pm+ to ~12am EST. (My 4am is 3pm/4pm EST, daylight savings dependent).
For EU: Mornings, early afternoons (ideally earlier than 3pm UK), or late evenings (~7pm+ UK).Because of my time zone, I vastly prefer scheduling RP beforehand, else I'm liable to not be awake or online in my early mornings (which is EU late evening and NA evenings). If in-game is too difficult, I'm up for Discord RP as well. Feel free to hit me up for either! Nowadays, I prefer in-game only. But feel free to find me on discord (liamont) for scheduling!I adhere to the policy of OOC =/= IC. I'm a massive proponent of communication. Sometimes yes, it may not be that clear cut and OOC feelings may seep in no matter how well we draw the line—we're all only human, after all. But for the most part, I keep OOC and IC as separate as possible, and if there's any issues I'm always up to talk things out and clear things up. I appreciate RP partners who also hold communication in high regard.
On the IC side, I can handle quite a lot that is thrown at my character. And in that same vein, what my characters think, say or do IC is purely that—a reaction to what's happening ICly. I enjoy writing a story together, but I will not RP with folks who constantly take what I say or do ICly, OOCly. Or folks who meta-game and randomly let their characters know information that I may have said OOCly, but never said aloud ICly. The RP that I most enjoy is one that has a clear boundary between the story and the authors—and if you're of the same mind, I'd be glad to write with you!Style of RP: What I love most in RP is RPing out all the little moments in life—all the steps of a trip, from planning, to packing, to waiting for the chocobo carriage, the ride to the destination, the entire package. It may take literal OOC months for us to go on a roadtrip somewhere, but I much prefer that to a one week trip to the Far East and back. I want to see how our characters get to know each other through those 'mundane' little details that may not be the 'main' event of a trip for most, but those 'mundane' details are exactly what I'm interested in most.
For example, let's say our characters have agreed to a dinner—I enjoy RPing out the invitation, then a trip to the markets to buy the ingredients, then a scene with preparing the ingredients and prepping for the dinner, a scene for the actual dinner itself, and then mayhap clearing the table and washing dishes if the RP flows in that direction, etc. If you're looking for event based RP where characters only attend the event—say a dinner—without RPing out everything around it, I'm afraid that I might be much too slow paced for the type of RP you are seeking. Though I will attend events at times, those are not the primary type of RP I am looking for.
I lean towards RP that is more suited for NPC type characters rather than protagonist type characters. Not that adventuring isn't fun! But sweeping the house vs slaying a dragon? I'd much rather RP out sweeping a house if the characters get in that sweet sweet interaction, vs an event where I'm just writing against a DM without any meaningful interactions between the players.Writing style/length: Paragraph style RP. I can do one-liners or only dialogue, but I vastly prefer novel style writing.Writing speed: About 2-5min for each emote (hitting the word limit on the chatbox). I very much appreciate it if my RP partner's emote responses are within 2-5min as well, though please don't feel pressured to hit the chatbox word limit. I might be wordy, but I'm not so fussed about my RP partners, so long as they are engaging! If needing to choose, I prefer quicker responses than lengthy ones that take 10+ min each emote.
As beautiful as someone may write, I start to lose motivation and focus if I need to sit there for 10 min or more to wait for a response, as I have difficulty multi-tasking and tend to be 100% there during in game RP...which means I usually will not be doing anything else but staring at the chatbox and waiting for the next emote the entire time my RP partners are writing.
This means if a response takes 10+ min, I will be waiting for 10+ min and literally doing nothing else.
As one might imagine, this starts to become very demoralizing when I consider the amount of time spent waiting vs the amount of time I am actually RPing! 60 min of waiting for 12-30min of RP is not a very effective use of my limited time. If your emote speed (hitting word limit of the chatbox) is consistently 7+ min or above, I will probably end up declining to RP further. No matter how wonderfully someone may write, this is unfortunately one of the major things that makes or breaks RP for me.I'm happy and very much willing to give my RP partners my entire attention—but in return, I greatly appreciate my RP partners extending that same respect to my time.I'm pretty okay about most themes, including:
- Dark/Mature themes : There's little in the way of dark psychological themes that I absolutely will not touch. It's Ishgard—considering the lore, it seems most Ishgardians weren't raised with even an inkling of mental health. Let me stress here that I don't OOCly condone many of the terrible mental health practices that Ishgardians seem to employ. But within RP, it can be interesting to explore.
- In regards to violence, I don't mind blood/gore, wounds, torture, loss of limbs, etc. There's little I can't stomach on that point, and if there is, I'll let you know. That said, violence for the sake of violence or for shock value isn't my thing.
- Lastly, considering the somewhat medieval atmosphere of Ishgard, I guarantee I won't take it personally if your character treats mine poorly for whatever reason.
- Adventure/Combat : Due to the nature of his work, Liamont is not freely able to partake in adventures that are outside of Ishgard. That said, there's plenty of Temple levequests within Ishgard and Coerthas that I'd be up to jump in on!
- Slice of Life : The day to day stuff is my absolute bread and butter!I will NOT do:
- ERP : Sorry, I'm just not interested. That said, I am not opposed to romance, but it may be quite a long process haha. If, however, the characters have that chemistry and it leads to going back to a room or somesuch, this is the only time I prefer a fade-to-black or a vague discussion on what happened so that we're both on the same page.
- Extreme lore-breaking : My preferred playstyle is low fantasy. If things need to be bent, I prefer reasonable bending of lore that makes sense within the setting, rather than bending things for "rule of cool." I very much prefer when things stay mostly within canon, or at least attempt to take into account the social structure of Ishgard based on what we've seen in the lore. Of course, there's a lot not said directly that is mostly inferred instead...I do try to do a lot of research within the lore, but I can definitely make mistakes as well. Feel free to correct me if I've gotten something blatantly wrong!A Word of Warning on Liamont: This is NOT a fun, happy character. While I will do humour often enough, Liamont is, at his core, a character whose themes revolve around tradition and the darker aspects of Ishgardian culture—along with the effect it can have on a person's mental state, for weal or for woe.
If you're primarily looking for wholesome or cheerful RP that will help take the edge off a bad day, please note that RP with Liamont is often anything but. However, if depressing stories are right up your alley, by all means hit me up!
That said, I'm also happy to accommodate to more light-hearted scenes, if you tell me beforehand!
